The Dowager

This is a massive project I probably shouldn’t have tried to tackle on my own. But here we are!

The house was vacant for 15 years, trashed by hoarders and squatters. Loving her back to life one square inch at a time! Right now only the upstairs is complete.

I’d love to paint the trim, but for now she just gets new porch lights, house numbers, and touches of paint on the front doors & handrails. Also a new roof, new lawn, garden, and new central air which let us get rid of the window unit.

The worst part of this was removing the radiators! I’ve had ductwork put in to allow central air. Woodwork got refreshed with stain and new shellac, and the floors were thoroughly cleaned and sealed.

New Ikea kitchen cabinets, backsplash, lighting, appliances, & an island I picked up on FB marketplace.

I didn’t care for the yellow brick, so I stained it with concrete stain. I was scared, but I love how it came out!

This room mostly got wall repairs, wood refreshing & paint.

The scariest room! You can’t see the giant holes that were in the walls here. I scraped (after testing for lead), patched where needed, rebuilt some wall, and added a Mediterranean texture to hide flaws & show off the woodwork. Floor is vinyl tile in a parquet pattern.

The sunroom is my favorite room in the house. This was mostly a lot of wall repair & wood retouching.

The balcony floor got a patch, some waterproofing, and boat carpeting. I’m not 100% satisfied with this, though, and may go back in and build a new floor.
